Hebrews 10:23, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;). In the literal Greek, the word “faith” is really “hope,” but the implication is still the same as “faith” used here. Paul says in Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of the things hoped for,…….” so as long as I know and understand what faith is, if I am holding onto my hope, I am holding onto my faith, as well. In Hebrews 10:23, Paul is talking about being patient. There used to be a common expression, “hold tight.” That would mean to get a grip on something so you would not fall off and get hurt by slipping. Paul tells us to “hold fast” to our confession of faith because faith does not always materialize instantaneously. If you become impatient and give up your confession, you will miss it an lose the whole thing.
