Another objection to speaking in tongues is “tongues aren’t for everyone.” Some believe that tongues are only for a special few individuals, a select few. And of course they find some Scriptural “evidence” in order to validate their specific stance. So, let’s take a look at 1 Corinthians 12:10, “To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.” People interpret this verse to mean that not every single believer receives the gift of speaking in tongues. Then in verse 30, Paul is asking rhetorical questions: “Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?” Obviously, the answer to each question is no. so, based on this scripture, people say, “See, maybe some people do speak in tongues, but it is not for everyone.”
