The manifestations of the Spirit are given to Christians to profit the entire Body. And they will, as long as they are exercised in love. In 1 Corinthians 114:3, “Follow after charity [agape love] and desire spiritual gifts but rather that ye may prophesy.” We are told in the Word to desire spiritual gifts and follow after love. The Word also tells us that God desires His believers to covet prophesying. If you are longing for something, it would be appropriate to pray for it. In other words, it is appropriate to pray for these gifts to be in manifestation in our lives. However, you would want to pray unselfishly and with the right attitude and heart.
