Paul used the Greek word “PALE,” and it refers to STRUGGLING, WRESTLING, or HAND-TO-HAND FIGHTING! There was a huge building that outwardly looked like a palace. But it was a palace of combat sports, dedicated to the cultivation of athletic skills. Every morning, afternoon, and night, the most committed, determined, and daring athletes of that could be found there, working out and training in this fabulous building. The boxers and wrestlers were like nothing we have today, in fact most of them would die in the ring. It was brutal, gory and devastating to the human body. One thing in particular to notice is the fact that THERE WERE NO RULES! Except you could not clench your opponent’s fist. The fight would go on and on until one of the two surrendered or died in the ring.
