The first part of the Greek word, “DIABOLOS” (dia)means through and carries with it the idea of penetration, and also the last part, “BALLO” means I throw , as in throwing a ball or a rock. When the two words are compounded, the new word depicts THE ACT OF REPEATEDLY THROWING A BALL OR ROCK AGAINST SOMETHING UNTIL IT PENETRATES THAT BARRIER AND BREAKS THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE. So, in the name ‘devil’ not only do we have the proper name but also his mode of operation. His name means that he is ONE WHO CONTINUALLY STRIKES AND STRIKES AND STRIKES AGAIN…BEATING AGINST THE WALLS OF PEOPLE’S MINDS OVER AND OVER AGAIN…UNTIL, FINALLY, HE BREAKS THROUGH AND PENETRATES THEIR THOUGHT PROCESSES.
