What the Lord says in the third instruction is not to be drunk with the natural juice but to be so filled with the Holy Spirit that some of the characteristics of a drunkard show up in us. These things that are desirable when operating in the Spirit are perverted by satan in an alcoholic. A drunkard has no problems. He doesn’t worry about tomorrow. He has no burdens and no cares. But it’s an illusion. Tomorrow his cares will be back, multiplied. The Spirit-filled person who casts his cares on the Lord, however, truly can live carefree.
