The early church kept being filled with the Spirit as we read how they did it in Ephesians 5:19-21, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” The fullness of the Spirit of God can be maintained by singing, giving thanks and submitting. The order of these may not seem like it, but I believe that it is very important. Exhorting or speaking to yourself is a Bible pattern. David did it. The Bible says he encouraged himself in the Lord.
